• “At the start of September 2023, the AT received notice that Aylesford School's main buildings would need to shut down whilst issues related to potential asbestos contamination were investigated by specialists in this field. ... its main buildings would be closed indefinitely whilst remediation of the affected areas in completed. The impact of the building closure has been very serious, and the AT is in constant contact with the DfE and their civil engineering partners to manage the operational integrity of the school. The buildings remain closed throughout 2024-25 with the use of 22 temporary classrooms, funded by the DfE, to accommodate all pupils being in school full time. The disruption caused by the closure of a significant number of buildings due to asbestos contamination and subsequent clearance has had a significant impact on the accessibility of the school buildings and the reduction in social space available for students.”
