“The Trustees have reviewed the company's forecasts, budgets and actuarial projections and have considered the circumstances of the Charity to determine whether it is appropriate to prepare these financial statements using the conclusion that it will continue as a going concern for the next year. The scheme is long term by its nature and uses actuarial calculations to account for its commitment to provide for future funerals for current members. The potential risk the charity faces is a significant loss in value of the Charity's investment portfolio and the accelerated costs of providing for funerals earlier than previously would have been actuarially expected. However these risks are not a threat in the short term to the going concern basis. The Charity has general reserves of over £3m. There is also a surplus of free reserve as disclosed in the Trustees' Report. These reserves are sufficient to fund the charity's activities for a number of years. Therefore the trustees consider it appropriate to continue to adopt the going concern basis in preparing its financial statements.”
