“At 31 December 2024, the Group had recorded a loss for the year of $657.3m (2023: $1,492.2m), resulting in net liabilities of $4,214.6m at 31 December 2024 (2023: $3,583.3m). The directors prepared cash flow forecasts and a severe but plausible downside scenario covering a period of at least 12 months from the date of the approval of the financial statements. The Group has received confirmation from its ultimate parent company ByteDance Ltd. indicating that it will continue to fund its future operations so that it can discharge its liabilities as they fall due for a period of at least 12 months from the date of the approval of these financial statements. The ultimate parent company will support the Group to the extent needed to ensure it can meet its financial obligations; furthermore, the ultimate parent company will ensure that no amounts due to be repaid to other ByteDance group companies within this period will be repaid unless there are funds available to do so without causing any financial harm to the Group, including any potential contingent liabilities that could arise in the future. In assessing the ultimate parent company's ability to provide this support, the directors have thoroughly considered the available sources of funds from the financial support of ultimate parent company, including the assessment of any payments to settle claims disclosed under provisions and contingent liabilities (note 17). Therefore, the directors continue to adopt the going concern basis of accounting in preparing the financial statements.”
